In addition to Jay's suggestions, I'd also add 80mm ED refractors on ALT/AZ
heads. These are fabulous for learning the sky. Wide views and it's easy
to find the brighter objectr. Additionally, they are super simple to set
up. I'd put a red dot finder on them.

I use my 80mm more than any other scope right now.
