I went on ahead, knowing full well there weren't going to be any
stars overhead. The Peak was under a high cloud deck, same one we see
here tonight in town. Pretty in its own way. Decent visibility around
the park, but darker than usual because of no starlight. The place
was packed, all the campgrounds full, people strolling around. That's
maybe 2-3 people seen in 20 minutes while myself strolling around.
Covered the ground from the Observatory over to the SW lot and
Coulter.
Ranger Derek is a very happy fella. In a year he's gotten a cool dog,
turned 30, fallen in love and married a nice woman. I think he was
smiling for an hour straight. Allaround good guy.
The local forecast for tomorrow night pretty much matches that for
tonight, so if anyone's telling you it looks promising for observing,
don't believe it. That high cloud deck is dense here in Monterey and
Santa Cruz counties.
Happy holiday weekend to all,
DDK
