We live off of Summit Road about 3 mils from Loma Prieta Road and my youngest son commented that the sky looked like the sky in "Independence Day" just before the alien invaders showed up... For him this is exciting since they have closed the local middle school for the day; I on the other hand keep thinking about So Cal...!

They say the wind will die down in the afternoon. Went over to see the
fire at Mt. Madonna. Fireline is near Mt. Madonna park. Mt. Bache Rd
just south of the first peak, you can see it about 1-1/2 mile to the
south - it came out a nature area which is now consumed just shy of the
park. The big problem is it is underresourced - one helicopter and one
bucket going back and forth to Lake Elsman. Last time we had a fire up
here a couple of years ago, they had 3 air tankers rotating out of
Watsonville Airport dumping fire retardant as well as a couple of
helicopters with buckets. Traffic is stopped on Mt. Bache at the
clearing (that's where all the TV cameras are sitting). There's a second
police line at the Summit Store to keep gawkers away (locals OK, but
since they keep saying "Summit Road" instead of "Mt. Bache" on the radio
and TV, everyone is running in to buy supplies and panicing). Locals
should have stickers on their cars indicating they live here (I have
them, so could get through). Took some cellphone video, but the TV
probably has much better footage. :-)
