Last year's TSP was almost a total rainout.
So, with nothing better to do at night, on the upper field there really
was a major GL shootout. Larry Mitchell had just bought a very powerful
green laser (50 mw?), as had several others there, and the sky was
criss-crossed with green sabers for hours. The low clouds were all lit
up.
Several people got together and actually drew a face on a large tree,
with one guy quickly drawing a large circle over and over again for the
head, and another couple of people drawing smaller circles for the eyes,
others making the nose and eyes and hair, and finally someone else
taking a 2 or 3 second exposure of the final creation. They used the
picture in a slide show the next day, it was supposed to be about things
observed the night before...
Very entertaining, for a while...
