I doubt it's meant for that audience.
Aside from some UI quirkiness that one expects in a 1.x product and the alpha channel flickering using my laptop's Intel GM graphics chipset, I'd say its a wonderful 1.x. Should be a great educational tool.
And more than likely if it comes to full fruition, even enthusiasts will find tours and such created by professionals to go with new findings, interesting. Imagine press releases from research also including WWT images and tours.
I say bravo Microsoft.

After downloading it and playing wih it a bit, I'd say it's, well, pretty.
The "community" aspect sounds interesting - not sure what it does or
offers but does "sound" interesting. Too bad you can only join existing
communities (only 3 so far) but not create your own.
