For me, that was very productive, I know that given 6 nights, the
experienced elders of TAC would have bested my numbers no problem but I am
very proud of this accomplishment. Never got bored once:-) As for as taking
notes on each object, I'd say about half and half. I don't take complete
notes unless the object effects me in some way but I would like to at least
keep track of what I have seen. Mark Wagner's pre-prepared lists have a
small portion of Steve Gottlieb's descriptions included and it would be
pretty hard to write it any better than Steve did so if the object was
interesting enough, I would write down my own descriptions or simply add to
Steve's description.
Example:

Steve wrote:
NGC 4041 UMA GX 4.2'x1.6' 11.9B
Concentrated nucleus, no clear core, with an irregular halo. Paired with Ngc
4036.

I added:

4041 nice / 4036 nice inc sp gx - UM pg24 grp of 3 nearby- cool
also UCG 7019, 7009, 1.758 @ 212x

NGC 3893 UMA GX 4.5'x5.7' 11.9B
Fairly bright, moderately large oval. Broad moderate concentration, small
bright core, hint of spiral structure..

I added:

FAV Great gx!! F SP ST, shaped like a squat "S" 2 others nearby, 3928,
3896,
(F SP ST=full spiral structure)

I also made my own sheets for logging objects and here are a couple of my
notes:

M108: FAV-lrg very mot, 3 sis
(sis=super imposed stars)

NGC 3898 Great! ps dl E-W, N of nuc, 3 more gx 3889, 3888, 3850 within .5"
(ps dl E-W, N of nuc,=possible dust lane running East to west on the North
side of the nucleus)

NGC 3718 FAV Brt bar! a beaut , 3729 & U6527 nearby

M40 ?? Yawn....Chuck was on peyote

M13- Oooh, holy goodness! dark prop shows, Sharp night IC 4617 soft sil
slash, 6903 BRT INC SP GX

Others objects that are not worth a re-visit merely got a check put next to
them. I always try to check the field nearby in UM and sometimes stumbled
onto a neat treat. I often went off on wonderful tangents like this one!

NGC 4000 group!! Great! Whoa! UM-A10 got 4000, 3997,3993, (3989 toughie)
3987,4009, 3999, 4015, 4023, 4021,4011,4005, 4022, 4018

It's really fun to and hop around in these galaxy groups using every last
bit of my equipment and ability to tease out or find separations between
those little slashes, flashes and patches. So far GX groups are the most
satisfying projects that I have gotten involved in. For GSSP 08, I plan to
print many DSS sheets for the more interesting GX groups and spend one or
two nights working on them exclusively. Looking forward!
