OT - the other end of Coe

It being a gorgeous Spring day, I decided to do a long hike in Henry Coe and see a part of it other than the overflow parking lot.
There's an entrance
called Hunting Hollow which you get to by going as if to Coyote, but continuing on Roop past where Canada splits off. This
entrance is said to be open 24/7.
I was wondering about its possible use as an observing site, but it's not clear that it has any advantage over Coyote, which is
~200' higher.

Anyway, the hike I took is the one described in http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/coehh.html , a 7.2mi out-and-back, except that
I extended it
with a loop as suggested at the end of the description at the website. This hike is one that's best done at this time of year, when
the
wildflowers are present and the mud isn't. The first part of the hike is pretty much flat, but the loop extension goes steeply up
1000'
to some great views, then comes down again, very steeply in places. If I hadn't taken hiking poles, I'd be there yet, inching down
on my butt.
Mud would have made it really hard and dangerous.

I met a ranger who said that the plan for closing the parks is still on the table. The new FY starts July 1. Seems that Coe
doesn't generate
enough revenue. I didn't know that this was its purpose. If you want to see some of this huge park, better get to it now before it
gets
too hot and before they close the place.
