I had no idea this would turn into such an interesting discussion. We sure have a lot of
experienced opinions here!
I think there are a few conclusions to be drawn:
1. Lasers by themself are not dependable.
2. Lasers will show some shift that a Chesire will not.
3. A sight tube is necessary to be sure the focuser is square, and the the secondary is centered.
4. All optical Dobs may exhibit some shift of a laser on the primary as it moves in elevation. 5.
To minimize the shift a laser can show, collimate at about 60 degrees elavation. 6. Its good to
have Peter Natscher back on the list! ;-)
What I personally take from all this, is that there is nothing unusual going on with this 12.5"
scope!
Thanks....
