To dream of darkness

As a 'science experiment' a few days back I used a controlled light in a closed off room and messed with getting the SQM (sky quality meter) to show me what 22.0 looked like. This was all well and good but I figured I would never see this myself.

Today while looking at an OR from about a 2007 star party in Okie Texas I ran across this and had to laugh when I hit his final sentence. I know some of you guys have been in a 22.0 sky (with your gear and great seeing & transparency) but for me it is still a dream.

Each night I also took a number of readings with a sky quality meter, borrowed from John Stone. On Monday night, these were typically around 21.7-21.8. On Tuesday, they were nearer to 21.9. Wednesday night averaged around 21.8. Thursday night was the best, with readings between 21.9 and 22.0. Folks, if you don't know what that means, just rest assured that I confirmed that it is DARK there. -- Mike Lockwood, 2007
