Hi
I would like to suggest instead of screws into the wood, that a pair of
aluminum angle bolted to the ladder frame with the wood on top and a
couple of screws to hold it in place.
Screws endwise into a 2x4 are pretty weak in shear. With the angles you
dont need a full 2x4. A piece of 1 inch plywood would work fine.
