Hi Rob,
Thanks for the info on CalStar. An idea you may (or may not) entertain as far as food for CalStar - I've taken to stopping in King City at the Mexican restaurant in the Safeway shopping center on my way in to LSA. They serve a pretty darn nice dinner for just about $10. I cannot remember their name at the moment. I don't know if they would drive the 40+ miles to cater an event. Or perhaps another place in King City would cater. Just a thought...

Now that GSSP is done, the next major TAC Star Party is CalStar. This year the dates will be September 25-27. Once again we will be at Lake San Antonio.
CalStar is a simpler event than is GSSP. Since we hold it in a park, the park provides the entire infrastructure (which is sometimes a mixed blessing).
The price of meals climbed this year above the $20 mark. I felt that was too high. I looked in the Paso Robles area for alternatives. Several companies offered similar services, but were each more expensive than our long-term caterer. After consulting with my TAC/GSSP co-sponsors and with the board of SJAA we decided to eliminate meals this year. We are still discussing if it is possible to have some sort of social event at dinner that does not require a hiring a caterer.
We still ask that everyone register. That gives us a count of the number of people to expect. I will try to leverage that to get enough toilets and to get them pumped more often.
For more information see
I am going to start registrations in mid August.
