Last night I took a peek at Orion with my cheapo binos before heading to bed
around 1AM. Good grief that's gorgeous, even without glass as seen through
the Valley Soup. Later on I looked at M42/M43 through binos again, no
knowing what I was looking at but of course relishing in its beauty. So now
I understand why people love Orion. How wonderful that it's appearing
earlier and earlier now.
Earlier that evening I used my binos to look at M38 and M37 in Auriga after
reading about it in the current Night Sky. Had some trouble locating M36 but
I'll admit that I didn't try very hard.
Also spent some time trying to make my PocketPC talk to my Autostar. Didn't
get that to work yet. I'm using a GPS serial cable with a homebrewn
conversion cable so I probably futzed up an Rx and Tx somewhere. At the time
the 2090 also provided a very satisfying wide view of M45. 800mm with a 40mm
eyepiece will do that. Didn't spend too much time on Mars but I did on
Saturday night, using the C8 with a barlowed 9.7mm. Saw the most detail yet
and this was from my driveway.
