I've said it for years... I'm waiting for someone to come out with a red flashlight with an integral drool-cup or drool-sponge :-)
for me..
Dead dogs:
- Pentax XL eyepieces with apparently water-soluble coatings on the rear elements.
- older meade cameras built so cheaply the had to use one button for the ENTIRE user interface.
- LXD55 mounts - an embarrasment even for meade.
Top dogs:
- AP900 GTO mount. For mounts, I have arrived.
- Stellarvue nighthawk. Great value.
- SBIG ST8 and ST4. Both "just work", and both are at least 8 years old. My 4 is 14 years old!
- Canon Rebel xt
- C11 ota. A portable workhorse.

I think that every piece of equipment I have -- or have ever had -- could be considered
a top dog. The only dead dog: a 10.5mm Pentax eyepiece that had one small sweet spot
in the center and everything else in the field was a blur......... :-p
Jim ............. :-)

Orion sells a red LED light on a keychain that works nicely for me. Very
small and portable, so holding it in my mouth is never an issue. Swallowing
it might be.
Of course, then there's the time my wife turned on the 800k flashlight on
the powertank for my scope to light the way to the porta-potty. You could
hear the screams for miles...
She doesn't do that anymore :-)
