Peter, the calculator numbers just don't really seem right, do they? So,
what is the variable that is missing? I think it is the individual
observer's limiting own magnitude, and perhaps years of "learning to
see". If calculations for a 10" are mag 14.5 for a person with a naked eye
visual limit of 6.0, what would a 10" yield if the naked eye visual limit
was mag 7.7?
