Does anybody know where in the greater bay area I can cut a 36" diameter
Pyrex mirror blank that's 8" thick in half to 4" thick, and get 2 36" x 4 "
blanks?

Alex -
If memory serves, Griffith Park Observatory is closed for an extensive
remodelling project. You may want to check their web site for confirmation
before you make the trip.

I'd like to offer my apologies to the group for the current weather. It
didn't occur to me that ordering a Kendrick observatory tent would have
consequences akin to acquiring optical components, but as things stand
meteorologically, I'm forced to reconsider. Actual delivery is scheduled
for tomorrow, so I anticipate at least one additional week of all-sky
nebulosity. Again, my apologies.

Rashad,
Which model is that. I can't find an 80mm scope that matches the price you

Hey Rashad, did you consider the Orion ED80?? Just wondering why you
might have passed that one up.

Just read through the specs. Very impressive. Even has an illuminated

Hi Phil
I wanted something smaller in size.
The Orion Ed 80 is a nice scope but at 24", it's almost as long as my
Genesis. the ZS80 is only 15 long" that plus the fit and finish make this an
almost perfect scope for me. At f/7.5 the ED will more than likely out
perform the ZenithStar 80 and have a little less color, but judging by the
daytime views my little jewel wont be far behind.
Rashad

On one of the last nights in Chile, Mark was working from a list Steve
Gottlieb had provided... He called me over to his eyepiece view of NGC 3324,
an emission nebula very near to, and probably a detached portion of, the Eta
Carinae Nebula. Steve had nicknamed it "The Southern Crescent." Indeed, a
very nice semicircular, bright nebula, which responded to filters well.
Similar in form and size to NGC 6888, hence Steve's nickname. As we were
comparing views and playing with filters (in my 13 and his 10) Loke Tan, one
of the two astrophotographers on site, told us that this nebula was
nicknamed by Chilenos--especially of this region--"The Gabriela Mistral
Nebula." (Gabriela Mistral was a Nobel Prize winner of Literature--a local
heroine.) Click on the below link, and you'll see why:
