Yup, I learned to program from him. We worked together writing web server software and stuff for O'Reilly in the *old* days (same server that runs the internet version of ACP). Fascinating guy. Great teacher. Cantankerous, stubborn and smart :) His creating the ASCOM codebase and getting it the wide acceptance it now has is a pretty amazing one-man-show effort.
