Subject: Alcyone
Hi everyone,
I joined TAC about a year ago and have been a little shy about jumping into the conversation. However I have a question I hope someone can help me with.
Do any of you use the Alcyone Ephemeris software? If so, what is the distinction between the geocentric eq. coordinates and the topocentric eq. coordinates. They seem very close.
Also I have an open invitation to anyone who would like to meet sometime at the parking lot of the Newton-Young Observatory of the Pacific Union College in Angwin (NE of Napa). It is a nice dark site and at this point in history no permission is necessary to use the lot. I have talked several times to Bruce Ivey, head of the Physics Dept. at the College. The lot and observatory are at the end of a dirt road leading away from a small local airfield. There is a walk through gate which is open year round to the public, and an auto gate which Bruce will be glad to tell the grounds people to open with a couple of days notice. He only asks that folks be respectful of the property. Nice folk in Angwin.
The lot is dirt so you'll need a tarp. My family were going up from Benicia tonight but weather and clear sky clock don't look good. most of the time I am in my own backyard in light polluted Benicia (the refineries) having the time of my life with an Orion 80mmED.
Anyway, if anyone would like to hang out sometime give me a holler.
Sincerely,
Otis
