Hi gang...
In Vicuna today. This area is a grape growing region, where they make
Pisco (the stuff has a real kick}... if not for the high Andes surrounding
the valley weŽre in, youŽd think this was Napa.... weŽll ok, there is a
bit of difference in culture and standard of living! It is MUY cheap down
here!
A few nights ago we were in the southern Atacama desert observing at the
old airport that served La Silla observatory. A darker sight would be
hard to find. Seeing was so steady everyone agreed it was the best night
viewing Jupiter weŽve ever had. Deep sky objects were great - Eta Carina
with OIII and UHC filters was mind-boggling. Next day we were up at La
Silla looking at the 3.6 meter scope and the NTT. Today weŽre on our way
up to Cerro Tololo.
Chileans are very hospitable people. This place is a winner....
More in a few days...
