Greetings all,

Spent last night on the computer looking for
potentially really dark sites for observing. Clear
Skys Clocks are a virtual home depot for finding dark
sites (Light pollution ratings, Road maps, Topo maps,
the whole she-bangs!)all over California.

The best sites (where Einstein's cross is virtually
nekid eye!!)are marked as black boxes (like the black
diamond runs at the local ski resorts).

Examples of black boxes include: Mt. Lassen,
Shingletown, and Lake San Antonio)

Blue boxes which are a step down to coach class
include: IHOP, Fiddletown and Chew's Ridge (Mira)

One black box that caught my eye was Lake Shastina
just north of Mt Shasta between I5 and US97. The roads
look good but isn't this a lake resort? Has anyone
ever observed from there? If there isn't much local
light pollution maybe this might be a good site for a
star party.

Dennis Beckley

BTW: Planning on driving up to Blue Ridge Road just
west of Mt. Vaca tonight around 10:00 to check out the perseids.
