There are several Phoenix galaxies that are visible from our latitude if you
have a clear view to the south (the Tri-Valley site near San Antonio Valley
is among the best around here). How about giving NGC 625 a try?

17.5": fairly bright, fairly large, elongated 5:2 E-W, brighter core.
