This exact scam was the subject of a channel 7 news report last night. The scammer logs into your account, changes your password, offers a product at a low price, talks the buyer(s) into moving the transaction off EBay (to evade fees), and just keeps the money. EBay feels that if you move the transaction off their site, there isn't much they can do. Who can argue?
