It's always been tough to grow vegetables here in the winter, due to
the low temperatures and overnight frost in the valley. This season I
thought I would try something different. I purchased an inexpensive solar
panel and wired it to recharge my 17ah gel cell. Then I attached my Kendrick
dew heater to the battery, and carefully wrapped each of the winter squash
with the dew straps. Now any time it appears that the temp will fall
overnight, the Kendrick system protects the vegetables from the frost!
I had also been having trouble with the neighbor's cat, so I
surrounded the border of the garden with little blinking red LED's to keep
the felines away, and then I attached my green laser pointer to my Bogen
tripod in the center of the garden to repel any birds that might be
interested in the winter's harvest.
Interestingly, one of the winter squash seems to have some sort of
genetic defect.....it is grossly mis-shapen, and has already grown to over
twice the size of the rest of the vegetables. I have nicknamed him "Arnold".
