    Hi Dave,

My wife and I went on vacation to Joshua Tree in October of 2002. We
stayed in a nifty little place called Rim Rock Ranch cabins. I can't
remember if "Rim Rock" is one word or two words now. Anyway, the cabins
were about 15 miles (or maybe more) away from Joshua Tree in another
town called Pioneer Town. I've been a city slicker my whole life so I
can't speak from much experience. However, I will say that the skies
were *awesome*. There was a faint glow on the horizon that was coming
from Los Angeles and the like but it wasn't very noticable. Personally
I was stunned at the dark sky. When my wife came out to join me she
said, "Look, there's a streak of clouds running across the sky." I told
her, "No, that's the milky way." We had never seen anything as
beautiful as that before. I tell her once a month that we should go
    back there again...

Enjoy your time at Joshua Tree and enjoy the park! It is very pretty
out there. It will probably be pretty hot during the day but the
evenings are very nice and cool. The nights were pretty windy the week
    we stayed there.
