    Hi David,

The skies in Joshua tree aren't too bad considering that it is a relatively small town.
Joshua Tree is part of a lighting restricted area designed to protect the skies in the Nat'l Park.
Riverside Astronomical Society, used to use Cotton Wood Springs near the South entrance of
the Park as our regular Dark-Sky site.

RAS now has a permanent Dark-Sky site in Landers about 15 miles north of Joshua Tree,
We won't have an advertised Star-Party in September, but a few of us will be there anyway.
Check out the web page at http://www.rivastro.org
Oh and remember bring plenty of sunscreen, the high desert is still VERY hot in September.

I have the opportunity to stay with a friend for a week in the town
of Joshua Tree, just minutes from the park, right around new moon, in
September. Does anyone know if this would be a good observing site
in general? He tells me the skies are pretty dark.
