I've been there.. many times during the day, and
twice at night. Its a nice spot.
I dont have the exact altitude of the observing
spot, but its a fair bit up. Maybe 1000 feet?
It overlooks 280, stanford and palo alto.
280 is not an issue. Its probably not as
dark as montebello, but its darker than being
in palo alto.
This star party is mainly a public outreach
opportunity. Thats what makes it so fun.
Also, note that its on 1st quarter moon...
good object for this kinda party. I was
there a while ago with the 15 and we were
looking at some deepsky no problem.
The other deal with foothills park is that...
a) is normally only open to palo alto residents
b) closes at sunset.
(The PAS star parties get an exception.)
Its likely not worth doing the permit thing
for a regular observing site as montebello
is not that much further and is open to all.
