Elko is one of the larger towns (it's all relative in Nevada), but you
shouldn't be worried about setting up out in the desert. It's a very friendly
peaceful place. Nevada is vast and open and I've never been bothered by
anyone. I'd drive out of town (20 miles maybe) to the south toward the Ruby
mountains and just turn off on any dirt road. It's virtually all public land
and so sparsely populated that you probably won't see anyone. ....Bill
