Turns out Mark Wagner ran into the same problem with NGC 3645 in June
2001, and Steve Gottlieb responded with the answer: "There's a good
reason you didn't find NGC 3645. It doesn't exist! This is one one of
those interesting NGC mysteries (at least to me) that has been
investigated in detail. Here is a summary from the NGC/IC site
http://www.ngcic.com/, but the bottom line is that NGC 3645 is a
duplicate of NGC 3630. [snip...]"
Turns out that _TheSky_ incorrectly identifies CGCG 039-143 (mag 15.5p)
as NGC 3645.
