I just chimed in on my perspective about this project at Rep. Pombo's website:
Basically I just said that a state-of-the-art public transportation system would be a better use of the money, time and energy as well as leaving a good legacy for our future generations. I did not mention anything about astronomy, Mt. Lick, ect. Why? Because most elected officials understand foremost the money issue surrounding a project - envirnmental impact, local standards, local opinion, ect really doesn't concern them.
