It is a National Park sponsored event held on national park land, so it
is publicized in the GGNRA - Golden Gate Nnational Recreation Area
publications, etc. The park asks the SFAA to give a talk at dusk and
provide the telescopes, and in exchange they get to use a nice (for SF)
site. The Nat Park/SFAA city star parties have been going on for about
5 or more years now, once a month on the first quarter moon Saturday
night, weather permitting.

There were about 50+ public and 15 telescopes. I think this is high on
both counts, but I think the numbers will continue to be high, at least
until fog season starts. It has good points and bad points. It is about
the darkest spot in SF but it turns into a teen (with cars) hangout at
about 9:00 p.m. when the ranger takes his traffic cones and goes home.
So for a short night in town it is good.
