I worked for a long time in high-end computer graphics at Alias Research. We
had a standard feature in our modeling/rendering/animation package designed
for mapping photographs of real objects onto CG Modeled geometry to make
them look real. It was called Projective Texture Maps. It could have done
    this "out of the box".

If anyone has a copy of Alias PowerAnimator (and an SGI to run it on!)
kicking around, you might want to try this :-) Maya might be able to do this
    by now too.

Wish I knew to try back then - pretty obvious in retrospect, really.

    Pete
