Sucker Holes at Montebello

I went up to Montebello last night, with hope, but no expectation, for
good weather. I went mostly because I had given up on the weather on
Monday, which turned out to be a good night according to those who
went. I didn't want to make that mistake again.

At least it wasn't cold, windy, or wet. But all I got from the sky was
    a series of sucker holes.

I did manage one observation: I caught (29)Amphitrite with binoculars
-- it is on a line between Atik (nice double, by the way, that Peter
McKone pointed out to me a few weeks ago) and the Pleiades. None of
the comets that were on my list made an appearance through the clouds.

The clouds were high and thin. I could occasionally see a few stars
punching through all over the sky. It looked like it could clear at
    any minute, but then didn't.

I gave it up around 8:00, when the only window left was a long low one
    down near the Eastern horizon.

I hope some of you had better skies elsewhere.

    Bob J.
