In most years, the event takes place late January/early-mid February.
This particular year the science fair had to occur before a certain date
because the person coordinating the event is due to have a baby shortly
thereafter, and without her, the event would probably have gone sideways
:-)
Let me know about the date for your kid's fair, eh? Where will it be?
