I agree... I do use the CSC often, but never as a sole source. This seems especially true in Los Gatos, as we have so much mountain-effected weather where we are nestled.
It is my primary source though, and I am quite happy with the results.

I look at CSC as a first indicator, but never solely rely
on that info. I use virtually all the other resources, esp.
the Mt Ham WX data. If observing at Coe, Mt. Ham conditions
are quite similar (only a few miles away and atop the same
ridge lines.
CSC has skunked me a few times this year, where cloud cover
has obscured the skies nearly instantaneously.
Dew point, temps at altitude, Mt. HamCam, Mt. HamWX links, etc.
Gosh sakes, you need a degree in meteorology to go out and
look at meteors, and other fun fuzzy stuff.
Right now, for instance, all of Mt.Ham is overcast from above.
IF only they pointed that cam straight up on some great
evenings, I'd pay to use it!
BTW, congratulations to BobCz and Mars on their Herschel
Awards.
And to JD, the poet laureate of Saltsville, I hope you
get your van back as high to the stars as it sat originally.
I honestly do not know what it looks like in the light, just
like all the peak dwelling TACos.
