Hi folks,
Haven't been active lately- lots of work and personal stuff to take care
of. But I've got some time, and have been lurking the last few weeks,
and might start getting back into it. We'll have to see about the 19th-
sounds attractive. Any word on the Mars conjunction yet? Or am I a
year early?
Jamie, I would never suspect anyone using the word "poltroon" on a
mailing list of being serious. :-)
And gentlemen, it's "Klaatu burada nikkto," according to the bumper
sticker. What? You don't have the bumper sticker??!!? ;)
On observing chairs sliding, I have the wooden Kendrick.
Defects:
1. I sometimes bump into the seat when squirming between the chair
back and my eyepiece, and the seat slides all the way to the ground.
Irritating but not fatal.
2. As someone else mentioned, when the seat is too low, one's
center of gravity gets too far out over the seat, and it will tip
forward. Workaround is as mentioned- "Doctor doctor my neck hurts when
I turn my head like this."
3. No one else mentioned that this general chair type works
particularly badly when placed sideways on a slope.
On the other hand, the Kendrick has a solid plywood face on the
stanchion the seat slides up and down on, and the friction bar is
covered with the type of water hose commonly used to connect a car's
water pump to the interior heater heat exchanger. I can't imagine it
slipping under two people if the stanchion were coated with wheel
bearing grease or 30-wt motor oil, much less a little dew or insect
repellent.
