Acetone eats plastics and plastic q-tip handles too. Hardware store acetone
works fine for cleaning laser Brewster windows even though spectroscopic
grade is recommended for that. Acetone evaporates really fast, faster than
methanol, ethanol or isopropanol which can all be used to prevent cleaning
streaks. It also dissolves some things that alcohols don't.
