Messier software

Btw, there is a halfway decent shareware planetarium program that
might help those of us that arent TheSky-enabled...

Earth Centered Universe -- ECU...
http://www.nova-astro.com/

You can configure ECU to display only messiers, and always display
the labels (set the "draw labels zoomed out checkbox" and set "extended
labelling" to 180 degrees).

Included in the install is an "object list" containing messiers
in marathon order -- eg M77 first, etc.

After loading the marathon object list, you can select objects from the list.
The first object in the list will be displayed (along with the constellation map, etc).

Ctrl-N goes to the next marathon messier, Ctrl-P goes to the previous.

Kinda handy... no flipping through the charts, etc. I might try it out on saturday.
(though I only have about 9 hours of battery power, hence I'll be taking the
charts as the backup plan.)
