Shingletown Airport is a paved, uncontrolled public airport which is located 35 miles east of Redding California, about a mile north of HWY 44, 3 miles past Shingletown. It is primarily used by TAC-Shasta (tac-shasta @ yahoogroups.com) members and is the site for TAC's annual Shingletown Star Party.
There are NO facilities at the airport. No power, no water, no restrooms. Shingletown proper is fully equipped with restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores. There are several local campgrounds complete with cabins, tent and RV facilities.
Site is behind locked gate and access is gained by contacting the TAC Liaison or joining a member of TAC-Shasta for the evening. The airport is officially closed* to aircraft traffic after sundown, so be careful when setting up. Make sure to keep the gate closed and lock it when you leave.
*currently the airport is officially closed indefinitely to aircraft for maintenance, so access is unlimited.
Take I-5 north to Redding. Take Hwy 44 east towards Mt. Lassen for 35 miles to Shingletown. 3 miles past Shingletown is Airport Road, just across the hwy from the local KOA campground. Make a left onto Airport Road and follow it about a mile to the airport entrance, which bears right off of Airport Road. The gate should be right in front of you.
