Uranus' moons

by Steve Gottlieb

Well, they're not that easy either, unless you're careful to catch Oberon and Titania at maximum separation (greatest elongation?). Triton is an easier find if you haven't gone for any moons beyond Saturn. Ray, my notes show we only viewed two moons with certainty from the Sierra Buttes, though I've done it a few times from both Lassen and Fiddletown. The coolest view was last year at the Sierra Buttes - as I logged "While viewing the two moons of Uranus I noticed a geosynchronous satellite slowing drifting due east. When I turned off the drive this mag 12 "star" stayed in the center of the field as Uranus and the nearby field stars drifted past!"
