I'm also interested in updating my AN firmware, as well as the Servocat firmware.  Has anyone performed this update?

Cor Caroli was cleanly resolved at 25x using my 80mm finder and even 13x split the pair.  Here's another approach -- what's the lowest magnification to resolve this gorgeous duo?

Equipment Discussions / Help Upgrading Argo Navis firmware?

Does anyone have the capability to help me upgrade the firmware on my Argo Navis?  I'd like to upgrade from v2.0.0 to v3.0.1  I've got cables on order but don't have the RJ-11 to RS-232 piece of the hookup.  Would love to do this before GSSP.  :)

The exact cable I need is the: pn-ser-cbl Argo Navis Serial Cable.

Well thanks John for the reminder to post a correction here. Phooey, last time I'd checked the Pinnacles NP site, there was nothing about a road closure, so I was feeling all sanguine. Just did check back (unprompted I swear), and yep according to
https://www.nps.gov/pinn/index.htm
right on their front webpage, 146 will be closed 2100-0600 thru June. So stargazing is fine if you want to stay till 6 am.

You said 22 July. That's supposed to be just fine.

I'll head to the Peak this evening! Will be in the SW lot.

We've had a couple dark nights with good stars and a visible Milky Way here in Salinas. Time to head for the dark hills. Will be there well before sunset.

TAC Visual / Triple double with Cor Caroli

While hunting faint and close pairs with my 12.5-inch last night, I realized there is a "triple double" which includes Cor Caroli!  They're not all physically bound to each other, but it was a nice scene all the same.

Cor Caroli = STF 1692 is the well beloved Alpha Canum Venaticorum and was the start of my star hop for the list of pairs I prepared for the session.  About half a degree to the west was STF 1688, a faint pair (9.24/11.06, 14.4", 343°), yellow A and orangish B, which I identified using 340x.  Next on the list was STF 1702, which was about half a degree to the east of Cor Caroli.  It was a wide orange-yellow pair, 8.72/9.41, 36.1", 82°.

It struck me it might be possible to see all three in the same FOV, so I went down to 71x and 1.1° and yes, I could just squeeze all three in the view, the two fainter Struves just within the field stop on either side of the showpiece in the center.  It helped to have already seen STF 1688, since it was the faintest pair to pick out.

It's these little scenes which give me great satisfaction while observing.  Hope you have something new to look for when observing this old favorite.

Thanks, John.
The LZOS objective on the 130mm isn't too bad.
Clear skies,

and in fact, after spending 2 days trying to find a group site or any campsite  within 2 hours drive of Glacier Point, the Santa Cruz Astronomy Club is canceling our appearance there.  I suspect we won't be the only ones this summer.
