TAC Visual / Re: Visual notes on the entire NGC

Your timing's good in putting this whole set out, with http://ngcicproject.org/ still flapping in the breeze.

An unbelievable resource, a historically corrected, visual-based NGC. Question is, Steve, is this really going to hang on you? I've seen different threads different places - what's ahead next for the NGC/IC project site?

Here's an 8 hour LRGB of IC342 which is relatively obscured by lying in the plane of the Milky Way.

TAC Visual / Visual notes on the entire NGC

I've just updated my observing notes files on Adventures in Deep Space (www.astronomy-mall.com/Adventures.In.Deep.Space/) with some assistance from Mark Wagner. The latest iteration includes visual descriptions of every deep-sky object in the NGC (7840 entries) as well as 1500 more from the IC.  Some of you may find this helpful in preparing or comparing observations.

In addition, you'll find data on every object (coordinates, type, magnitude, size, position angle, etc.) as well as historical discovery information and a discussion of all contested NGC/IC identifications.

Just follow the link on the home page for "Steve Gottlieb's NGC Notes"

TAC Imaging / Asteroid Hannibal

Shot with a SV80S @ f/6 with Atik 414EX and IR blocking filter.  Could have used a bit more exposure, but moon light made judging a challenge.  Fun part, wasn't sure precisely where the asteroid was until I stacked the 60x 60s frames.  Fascinating stuff.

TAC Imaging / Wide-field 3D Astronomy

If you want to watch a great ~1/2 hour video (with wonderful images) on how 3D astronomy is now being done (spectra per small chip area) over a pretty wide field, click on the video (upper right) describing the new MUSE system at:

https://www.eso.org/public/usa/teles-instr/paranal-observatory/vlt/vlt-instr/muse/

It will be a long time before amateurs are doing this in their backyards but it is very exciting.
Cheers,
Jeff

TAC Astro Classifieds / Explore Scientific AR127 Refractor for sale $395
« Last post by Dave Ittner on November 25, 2017, 08:35:25 AM »
Hi folks,

I am a minimalist with most things, and that includes scopes.  No sense having something that is just sitting around not being used.  With my recent purchase of a used SW 127 Mak Cas (for use in backyard) this scope will just be sitting in its' case.  Therefore I am offering it to you folks first before I put it up for sale on Cloudy Nights.

This ES AR127 is in excellent shape.  Comes with all of the standard features as shown on their website
https://explorescientificusa.com/products/127mm-achromatic-refractor
and at: https://www.astronomics.com/explore-scientific-ar127-refractor-optical-tube_p19920.aspx

except mine comes with more ....
- this scope use to be supplied with a nice silver case.  Mine did and so it is included.
- I am a huge fan of Rigel Quick Finders, so this scope will come with one.
- also made a nice dew shield for the optical finder (it works great)

Will be glad to answer any questions ... email me directly at sjaamentor@gmail.com

Regards,
Dave
