TAC Imaging / Deep Sky Colors, the book
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:17:30 PM »
Hello,

I wanted to let everyone know that a bit over a month ago I launched a project on Kickstarter for my very first book about deep-sky imaging.

Here's the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rba/deep-sky-colors-the-book

If you visit the page you'll be able to read a detailed description about the project. While the blurb is loaded with superlatives, my goal really is to produce what is being described. If I were to copy one quote from the whole description, that'd be this one:

<<
"Deep Sky Colors" will take you deeper into astrophotography and our Universe, by documenting it from very diverse perspectives:

It's not a manual but you will find tips and tricks here and there.
It's not a storybook but it will be filled with stories, real stories.
It's not a science book, but you'll learn about science.
It's not an art book, but the book breathes art all over.
It's not an essay, but be ready to experience astro-imaging from a very personal point of view.
>>

If you're intrigued, please take a look, and if you like it, there's only 9 days left.

I'll be happy to answer any questions, of course.
Best,
Rogelio

No problem. Sorry you can't make it!

The next one will probably have to wait more than just a little bit though, as I'm going to be away from the Bay Area for quite a bit the next couple of years or so, starting next week.

EDIT: I just realized I repeated what I said in the original post!  8)

Hello,

By the end of the month I'll be leaving the Bay Area for a few months (I'll still come and go often in the meantime), and since I received a few emails from people interested in the last workshop - focused on nightscapes/starscapes, NOT deep-sky imaging - but who couldn't make it last time, I decided to offer one last class before leaving the area.

To avoid conflicts with GSSP I scheduled it for Saturday, July 25, from 9:30am to 1pm, also in Sunnyvale.

To register, or for more details, please click here: http://www.deepskycolors.com/archive/2015/07/09/rba-Nightscape-Processing-Workshop.html

Any questions, let me know.

Thanks!

Rants and Off Topic / The new TAC is getting old
« on: February 07, 2015, 03:05:33 PM »
I know there's tons of hours of work behind this web site, and maybe that's why no one has come forward - out of respect for the work done by people who just wanted to make things better and asked nothing in return - but the way I see it, in order to work around Yahoo's stupidity (that was the trigger IIRC), TAC feels like dying. There was a dynamic, lively communication among TACos via the email list. This place on the other hand feels like a cemetery.  And the email notifications feature just doesn't cut it.  There's still millions of email groups working on the net, did we really have to change the way we communicate? Just saying, this area is called RANTS so take it as such  ;)

This coming March 1st, 2015 I will be giving a 3-hours Beginner/Intermediate hands-on PixInsight processing workshop in Sunnyvale (exact location TBA to registered attendees). Price is $75.

Please visit the following page for detailed information (topics to be covered, etc) and to register:

http://www.deepskycolors.com/archivo/2015/02/03/pixinsight-Workshop-312015.html

Seating is limited and we may run out of seats rather quickly. This will be the only Beginner/Intermediate workshop I plan on doing this year (other than possibly at major events), but I do plan to do a more Advanced workshop later in the year.

For those of you who attended the workshop I did back in 2012, this time I plan to spend more time and dig much deeper on a few topics, rather than running through many.

Any questions, ask.
Cheers,
Rogelio

TAC Imaging / Re: Beginning Astrophotography Article from RBA
« on: December 27, 2014, 08:31:13 AM »
Hi,

Sorry for jumping in a bit late. Yeah, the price tags I wrote are the ones that may be found in the second hand market. If that wasn't clear in the article, that's my fault, but browsing through sites like Astromart, I think the numbers I wrote were okay - in the lower end, but realistic enough I think.

As for talking about a $500 Orion refractor and showing images taken with an FSQ106... Do you think the articles are misleading? I didn't think they are and I'm hoping no one is actually misled. In fact, I went as "far" as taking off my STL from the FSQ and do imaging with a DSLR - something I had not done in ages - for a couple of nights, so at least I could include a couple of images closer to what a more modest equipment could do.

Cheers,
Rogelio

I'm planning on going somewhere, away from the fog if possible. Nothing dark or fancy, just not sure where yet....
Cheers,

Nice plug, thanks! :-)

And yeah... The first places seeing my new material are Facebook and Flickr. My web site comes last, usually weeks behind. Life :-)
