To follow up, the forecasts were very off for Saturday night.  The sky was clear and very dark with little or no wind at Bears Gulch parking area up the road from the East Entrance about 5 miles.  No campers but a couple of cars with headlights came through; not too much harm (for me anyway).  There were 3 of us astrophotographers plus a fourth who wondered in for a Milky Way landscape.  Great site!

Sounds good.  I've got my power arranged now but, unfortunately National Weather Service is now saying 17mph winds (23mph gusts) through 10pm both Friday and Saturday nights.   That hopefully will get better for me (I can image up to 10mph). It is predicted to be <~10mph after 11pm so still possible.

That location (grassy field at the SW end of the campground on the satellite) seems to be the lat/lon of the the Clear Sky Chart for East Pinnacles.  I could drive up to Bear Gulch but that spot in SW end of the campground looks pretty good.  Now to find enough juice to keep the camera going.

D.A.R.C. is down for 2 weeks and I'd like to try the Pinnacles East (road closure on the West) for some imaging but I need advice on best observing location there.  Is that at the campground (where Clear Sky Chart is) or up 146 somewhere like the 'peak view point (sounds more likely).  Suggestions or info appreciated.

Looks real good, Rob, and nice write-up.  NB is really best for these emission nebula.  I'm just an LRGB person. I use Ha for these guys but they're often pretty monotone.  I do have two spare slots in my filter wheel, however, so some day.

I wanted to see how much IFN I could pull of the M81/M82 region and there is definitely plenty that came out in this 9.8hour HaLRGB.

The galaxies are composited by exposure time with a higher resolution M81,M82 from 3 years ago  with another 12.2 hours for 20hours total on those two galaxies only.

...Actually this image was published in the March 2016 Sky and Telescope magazine.
See the article entitled "The Spiral Arms of Spring".   But they actually clipped out the most interesting part (to me anyway) which is the long tidal tail which contains the 2014 discovered Leo Tidal Dwarf Galaxy (TDG) located near the tip of the tail.

Here's a recent image of a large dark nebula in Cygnus just below the Pelican that should be easily visible.  It's 2 degrees long and I've only found 2 other images of it. But I think its pretty although rarely imaged.  Image and details at:

This is an 2.6 x 2.1 degree image of Lynds Dark Nebula 914 (LDN 914) in Cygnus just below the Pelican. It is a 6.7hr LRGB using my new FLI ML16200 camera with, for the first time, the Riccardi 0.75x focal reducer/field flattener to get this large FOV. I could find only two other instances of it being imaged on the web: one by the ESA Hershel observatory in the far infrared where this “crack in the sky” was glowing and the other a luminosity image by Werner Mehl where it was completely opaque. This is a 6.7 hour LRGB version of this interesting object that apparently has been rarely imaged.

From the reference below, the LDN 914 dark nebula is a 2 degree ribbon of cold dust and gas that is about 50 light-years long and has about 800 times the mass of the Sun in total, plenty of raw material to make future stars. It glows in the far infrared emitted by very cold objects, such as clouds undergoing collapse. But in visible light, LDN 914 is black because, as we know, cold dust is extremely opaque, blocking the light from stars behind it.
