TAC Imaging / Using Astro Cameras on the Eclipse?
« on: April 28, 2017, 10:01:34 AM »
I'm covered with DSLRs for the eclipse, but I have these QSI cameras with their KAF 8300 chips sitting idle.

Is it worth considering putting a 200mm medium format lens on the QSI to shoot RGB/Narrowband during the eclipse?

Any thoughts about how to practice exposures?  Is the corona as bright as the full moon?

Annual Star Parties / Water at Calstar?

Is the water potable at Calstar?

Does it need to be boiled before drinking?

Time to get some big scopes out to see if you can spot this one.

Pretty faint at mag 16

TAC Astro Classifieds / Old Celestron Tripod (TAKEN)
« on: May 19, 2015, 12:14:00 PM »
I picked up this tripod off Freecycle and it's too much for my use.

It appears to be an old Celstron model, probably to support a 10-14 inch fork.

I'm near Menlo Park.

It's TAKEN, Thanks Mark!

TAC Imaging / Filter Order in a session?
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:42:04 PM »
Last night, RBA and I were talking about what is the best order by altitude for RGB filters.  The theory is that Luminance should be shot high in the sky to minimize issues with light pollution and extinction.

When to shoot red vs blue vs green was a following question.

What guidelines do others follow for switching their filters as a target drops from view?

What's considered the appropriate density of this material for best use at Calstar and GSSP?
I'm concerned about wind loading with a super-dense weave.
Is it best to go with the 70% or something less dense?

TAC Imaging / Beginning Astrophotography Article from RBA
« on: October 08, 2014, 11:59:45 PM »
I saw that Rogelio is putting up a series of articles on 500px that covers the major areas when starting to take pictures of the night sky.

https://iso.500px.com/deep-sky-photography-guide-part-1/

If such a guide existed when I started, I'd have saved a lot of time and money.  But then, I wouldn't have known where the dead ends were!
