Observing Intents / Dinosaur Point in December yes, Saturday night
« Last post by DDK on Today at 05:47:06 PM »
In case you haven't migrated to the new TAC list, you want to know Dinosaur Point is open tomorrow night. Do get there by dark.

Now migrate to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sf-bay-tac
That's the new list. This forum is closing.

Here are the Dino regs - http://smf.observers.org/index.php/topic,29.0.html

Observing Intents / Re: OI: Lake Sonoma tonight (12/12)
« Last post by DDK on December 13, 2017, 03:06:37 PM »
Animal, hope you got the memo. The online face of TAC has migrated. We're rebuilding the observers.org webpage, and the list is now at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sf-bay-tac

You can file your OR there. And boy has activity gone up, this is clearly a serendipitous shot in the arm.

Observing Intents / OI: Lake Sonoma tonight (12/12)
« Last post by sgottlieb on December 12, 2017, 12:30:18 PM »
Lone Rock parking lot is the spot -- weather forecast is very good.  Not sure how much the SoCal smoke will be a factor.  I plan to arrive before sunset, which is now about 4:50 PM, along with 3 others.

ah HAH!  I can pull a sql database out of the OR's.     I can DROP any discussions following an OR, so it JUST includes the first post in each thread.   I can, if you like, include those discussion threads.

here's some of the data (without the actual post content or a bunch of other metathreads)

Code: [Select]
smf=> select m.id_msg,m.poster_name,to_timestamp(m.poster_time),m.subject from smf_topics t join smf_messages m on t.id_first_msg = m.id_msg where m.id_board=4 order by m.id_msg;

For the observing sites posts and other data, is that already posted somewhere else? If not, we can probably use Wikia or something along those lines to host the data. If Wikia isn't palatable, I run my own server that I can host stuff on.

We're taking care of the Sites, I'm putting that on a new cloud hosted web page...   But, the Observing Reports, thats a bigger job than I'm prepared to undertake, because I have a bunch of non-TAC stuff to migrate thats also critical.

would you be willing to undertake migrating the OR's to your choice of platforms?  I can point an observers.org vhost to it, like or.observers.org ...

There are legacy TAC OR's here, http://old.observers.org/reports/    that covers 1995-2010... thats all static HTML, and could just be tarred up, but it would be very nice if it got integrated.
OR's from 2014 to now are here, http://smf.observers.org/index.php/board,4.0.html

I probably can reverse engineer the sql database that SMF uses, and extract the recent ones in a CSV format or something.

The data from 2010-2014, pretty sure thats lost in time and space.  We tried to use a Drupal website I built but it never worked very well.

I have my own 2U server (an HP Proliant DL180g6) that I purchased about 5 years ago with the help of community donations (this group and others participated).    I've had free colocation for many years courtesy of a friend's web operations, but he's pulling out and going 'cloud', and the current coloc is too expensive for my now-retired self to finance, nor do I want to have to get into any sort of ongoing donation stream thing...

We're already moving TAC to a google group email list (it was a email list before this forum was introduced)...  and, I've got 5-6 other sites I have to move or migrate or whatever.

anyways, if you have an account here, I've extracted your email address, and sent you 'invites' for the sf-bay-tac@googlegroups.com list.

Wow, that was quick.  What kind of hardware/network bandwidth requirements does this site require?

"Lumpy Darkness" (Mark W.), who originally instigated TAC, has suggested we give an email list another try...

so...   https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sf-bay-tac   will be our new home, back to email list format!

I send everyone currently subscribed to this forum invites to the group..

The coloc deal I've had for years and years which has enabled me to host this site for free is going away in a week or two.

I'm looking into alternatives, but I may be going dark.
