out of area subscribers
« on: November 17, 2017, 11:52:56 AM »
I've been getting more and more signups from folks far out of the area.  latest one has a .in (india?) email and a .uk IP address, but filled in the 'scope' and 'interests' fields with reasonable values...

what think you all, should we open this group up to wider area participation?      It *is* quite possible they intend to visit here, etcetc.

So long as it doesn't get "out of hand" and become a world-wide astronomy board,
or suddenly generate spam, I see no problem with it.  An occasional observation
from far places is not unknown here, when one of the usual suspects goes on a trip
to, say, Australia.

Our answer has always been no. There are plenty of observing websites spread out all over the map. The advantage of TAC is that it's local. Please don't. And Matt, it's different right up front when a local goes traveling.
