H-a Solar suitcase handle
« on: August 30, 2014, 06:06:30 PM »
A first for me: Their is a really long, linear filamentary prom that appears attached at its ends to the photosphere. Just off center of solar disc. But it is clearly raised and detached elsewhere except perhaps for for on small mid region. So it looks like a rope suit case handled. Should be visible over next coupled days. Also numerous tree branch looking proms at solar rim today. And active sun spot regions are plage looking hot. Standard solar filter view is not to be missed - excellent sunspot count 73 (NOAA)

michael,  Serveral days last month we watched one of these linear filamentary prominences.   I took a few with my ipad air via a PST Coronado!  Let me know if you want to see a few pics?  Some of the park visitors called them "vericose vein" like:)
