Yep, Peter Natscher and I are meeting up in the big lot just inside the park. Easy road, not far off 101, very dark there.

I might just join y'all w/ my 'new' 17.5" :)   if you see a silver tacoma 4x4 with a silver cap, daz prolly me.

think I'll leave s'cruz at like 3-ish.

seeing as how its likely to be *cold*, want me to bring a 'warming station' ?   (a 20 lb propane tank with a Mr Heater on top...)   if we get too cold, we take a break, fire it up and get toasty for 20 mins...   I wouldn't leave it on all night as it likely would make a turbulence plume....

It's forecasted to be around 40°F by midnight, not too bad as long as its dry.  Wear your ice fishing attire :))  My ETA: 4pm.

A few weeks ago observing at Dino, the temp. went down to 42°F by 11pm but was dry.  Once out in this kind of environment for a few hours with good clothing, you forget about the temperature and enjoy being outside under the stars seeing the late fall and winter sky -- and doing this with good company.   ;)

John et al, tomorrow we're setting up by the visitors center, the place on the 2nd link you sent. That's why the title of this thread is "Pinnacles west side visitors center."

I like the Chaparral parking lot too, at the trailhead. Still decent horizons, and breathtaking views of the hoodoos before, during and after sunset. The Chaparral lot is at the end of the road, it's past the parking lot you highlighted on that first link. Hard to miss that detail, the road really does end there, no road goes thru the Pinnacles.

No kidding, John, I remember that. Good recall. Dave Baumgartner is the guy who organized those starparties.
Hope you're feeling all better.
