Double Captcha
« on: January 17, 2015, 07:59:07 AM »
Hey Admins

Do we really really need a Captcha and a Quiz?
Although the Quiz is fanciful and cute,
the Captcha sucks. And, frankly, my old photon worn eyes
can't tease out that nonsense. And my old DOS desktop here doesn't
have speakers.

Lose the captcha, keep the quiz. Proves I am not a bot at least

I brought up a new instance of this same forum software for some other folks.  in the 30 minutes before I enabled the captcha and the quiz, I had 6 bogus signups one of which managed to post 12 spams.   and this was an unannounced, unlinked forum, they found it because its name was http://forum.somethingelse.com ...    :o

in the 2-3 weeks since enabling said captcha, not one. :P

Can a bot really tell what end of telescope gets the eye?
Really?

eventually someone looks at the error logs and adds the Q&A phrase to the bots scripts.   then we have to change the magic questions because the hackers all share their scripts and in a week or so we get bombarded by more fake signups .   I've heard they crack captchas by using teams of kids in asia/india to stare at screens and solve them

anyways, you should only see a captcha when you register, not any time after, no ?   are they showing up when you're logged on as yourself?
